Arvid Axel Konu, 96, of Cloquet and formerly of Esko, died Wednesday, August 1, 2012 in St. Luke’s Hospital, Duluth. The son of Matt and Laura Konu, Arvid was born in Thomson Township on January 24, 1916.

Through the years, Arvid had been employed at Konu Dairy, Universal Atlas Cement Plant, was head of maintenance for the Esko School System, and drove for Kolar Chevrolet. He served as Carlton County Commissioner and was a member of Apostolic Lutheran Church in Esko and Esko Historical Society. Arvid enjoyed vacationing in Galveston, TX and also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Dar Yaeger in 1993; sisters, Sannie Juutalainen, Ida Keinanen, and Taimi Johnson and brother, Emil Konu.

Arvid is survived by his wife of 72 years, Meredith, of Cloquet; daughters, Kathy (Butch) Bergstedt of Esko and Linda (David) Cameron of Austin, TX; grandchildren, Cyndy (David) Stromberg, Patti (Jeff) Hilt, Kristin (Jim) Erickson, Joe Bergstedt, Molly (Matt) Swinney and Andrew Cameron and nine great grandchildren.

Funeral Services were held on Monday, August 6, 2012 in Apostolic Lutheran Church, Esko. Burial was in Apostolic Lutheran Cemetery.
